Energia interna

L’energia interna di un sistema fisico corrisponde alla somma delle energie cinetiche delle sue molecole. Essa si calcola con la seguente formula:

U = km * N , dove km è l’energia cinetica media delle molecole e N è il numero di molecole.

km corrisponde a l * kB * T / 2 , dove l indica il numero di gradi di libertà (numero di coordinate per descrivere il moto della molecola). Esso è 3 se la molecola è monoatomica, 5 se biatomica. kB rappresenta la costante di Boltzmann, ovvero il rapporto tra la costante di proporzionalità (R) (vista nell’articolo sul gas perfetto) ed il numero di Avogadro (NA). T naturalmente è la termeratura in Kelvin.

Dopo tutto ciò avremo quindi:

U = (l * kB * T * N) / 2 , ma N= n* NA (dove n è il numero di moli) e KB abbiamo detto corrispondere a R/NA, per cui avremo:

U = (l * R * n * NA * T) / (2*NA) = (l * n * R * T) / 2 .

Diamo un po’ di numeri e ricapitoliamo:

km= energia cinetica media, dipende da l e T.
kB= costante di Boltzmann = R/NA = 1,381 * 10-23 J/K.
l= numero di gradi di libertà della molecola = 3 (se monoatomica), 5 (se biatomica).
R= costante di proporzionalità = 8,3145 J/(mol * K).
NA= numero di Avogadro = 6,022 * 1023 mol-1.
N= numero di molecole = n * NA.
n= numero di moli = N/NA.

Torniamo velocemente alla nostra energia interna. Essa dobbiamo sapere che dipende SOLO dalle condizioni in cui il sistema si trova in quel momento.
L’energia interna è una grandezza estensiva: il suo valore dipende o dalla massa o dal numero di particelle del sistema. Le grandezze intensive invece non dipendono dall’estensione del sistema.
